    Interesting day.
I’m filing fir a VA disability and had to call and ask their call center a technical auestion about the process. Imagine my surprise when I got a phone rep with an accent that made me think I’d accidentally connected with one of those ‘Canadian’ pharmacies that cold call trying to sell you drugs.
I’m not talking the Indian accent that someone who’s been here a long time has, oh no, this was obe-foot-still-on-the-boat thick. The kind of accent where were one to use it on a TV program you’d be accused of promulgating racist stereotypes. Not only that but he had difficulty understanding me and had to ask the same questions over and over. I finally just hung up.
Each time I call the VA I chat with the rep while they’re calling my file up and I ask casually if the phone rep’s a vet. Out of the many times I’ve called I have had no more than two say they were. That’s bad enough, but when you hire someobe who can’t speak or understand the language well enough to do the job while vets are living on the streets homeless, welllll……
I called my Senator’s office and they agrred but said the VA balks at hiring vets and there’s not much Congress can do about it?????
My Fed rep’s office was far more concerned as the rep’s stoll in the Guard himself. We’ll see if anything comes of this but I’m getting deeper into the VA bureaucracy than I hsve in decades and it looks like I’m going to have to hire one of those law firms that specialize in VA cases.

No excuse for the VA to be hiring off shore customer service people.

Not sure how you would feel about doing this but if you have an organization within a 5 hour drive that is not affiliated with the government but set up to help vets I would go to them and have them help you fill out the paper work and state your case.

This has nothing to do with your competence or your deserving VA disability payments. It is all about knowing how the VA wants its i’s dotted and t’s crossed. VA organizations set up outside the government are experts at this.

In the same vein Social Security disability benefits are denied something like 90% of the time on the first application, we have a non-profit, non-government affiliated organization here which flips the tables to 10% denial on the first try, it is all about ticking the right boxes and using the right words.

Czar, all claims are filed on line, (new), also go to your county Veterans Affairs Office courthouse, they have the process. Now I do the same thing every time I’m at the VA, “hey you a Vet” out of 100 people maybe one or two, and out of those one is mopping the floor. It’s disgraceful, just disgusting. Not like the old days, when WW2 Vets ran the VA. Also find a lawyer who handles VA claims. You don’t pay, the VA pays for the lawyer on percentage of claim amount awarded.
        Fight those Bastorids……….

I am going thru county Veterans Service Officer, she’s also been doing this since the War of 1812 so she’s got the experience and the contacts. Yep, I know they can be filed on line but you need internet for that and I’m in that hole. I prefer paper, which I duplicate and send certified so I have proof of mailing and receipt. Doesn’t matter that the signature’s the mailroom, it shows a person responsible for, and authorized to, receive that mail did so. All I am responsible for is getting into the building.
Not much has changed in the VA over the last almost 45 years I’ve been ‘working’ with them, unless you count crappier staff and they’ve be pne better at abusing and killing the people they were created to serve. Considering the numbers thry kill and the efficiency they have in doing it you’d think they would have an internal medal for that. And another for irony in killing vets who’d survived combst with declared enemies of the country.

Thanks, but we have our state VA servicecrep who’s very experienced and I have a law firm that specializes in VA work on tap. I’m through with them, through fighting with Congress who, for whatever reasons, has knowingly allowed them to savage vets for over a century.

Look folks, just sticking to his records with Vietnam POW issues, ignoring those from WWII and Korean War POWs, there are questions.
The hospital at Hickam had beds set up for injured VN POWs by name, injured POWs accounted for by name by the US, Red Cross an NVN…they never got on the plane.
A NV defector with direct knowledge of US POWs testified endlessly but the Senators didn’t believe him, even after direct proof of POW remains the NVN wouldn’t admit to were found.
The DIA spent more effort trying to disprove the existance of US POWs than thry did trying to find them. As late as 1997 a soldier in an international class at the DIA was strongly cautioned about the inadvisability of questioning official US VN POW policy even while the Agency had a huge VN PIW display in its lobby.
McCain wasn’t alone in tossing the POWs to the political wolves, it was a class action, but he should have, amongst them all, been the one with the balls to say “ENOUGH!”. Gurss that battle between money, power and a bunch of Joes most will forget about in a few years isn’t all thst hard of one to fight.

This ain’t good. I finally got home to the Hillz last night, went to bed at a normal time and woke up at 4:30 this morning. Not happy about that. Must be the howlin’ wolves and clean air. So, when you get up that early, you find goofy stuff on the interwebz. And I found this – pro hoopster gets a triple-double without one of them being double figures in points. First player in history of NBA to do it this way. 😆 😆

BTW, working on protonbucket and gettin’ the coffee fired up. I’m gonna need it getting up this early on Saturday.

me too, re the dogs….they have an absolute timeclock habit that does not include sleeping in on odd days of the week….mine are polite…up to the point that fifteen minutes past their 6 AM potty and feeding time hits…then the whining starts…followed up with more vocalism if not attended to…frankly, I am crazy enough about them that I don’t mind, and as an old fert, I don’t NEED so much sleep, and anyway, there is that important human potty morning call so it is all OK. My dogs make me laugh…not so the news or the folks so much anymore. woof woof.

I’ve forgotten what it’s like to get a good night sleep. At least though I’ve been getting out of chores. My son has been coming and helping out when we can’t and this morning since someone had to stay with the little guy so he’ll sleep in, hubby and son are out doing them. It of course didn’t stop me from waking at my usual 5 a.m.

I’m not about to wake the little guy up until he wakes up on his own, he cried himself to sleep last night and I promised him as soon as he woke up we’d take him to see his Mama. I’m hoping the second night will be easier for him.

      • Sorry you didn’t get to sleep in. My grandson “slept” over last Sunday night because my DD needed a break. No sleep at all for me and little man had a tough night not being in his house and baby bed. Those little guys have it hard when the routine changes.

Is your grandson excited about being a big brother? It’s nice that they aren’t too many years apart. I think it’s precious when girls have big brothers looking out for them.

I hope that y’all can get some rest soon. So many happy and exciting days ahead, though. I’m so happy for your family and Gracie is the sweetest name. 😊
