Fox had to withdraw its post on the Quebec shooter being Moroccan. Their posting had thst along with a pic of the Canadian PM giving a boilerplate statement on the shoot. Trudeau managed to zap Fox, shie his solidarity with Moslem 5th columnists in Canada, trash Trump and most likely get a chance to beer-diwn eith Barry. They can both hi-five over their joint efforts to stab the countries that fed and sheltered them square between the shoulder blades.
If the Canadians would be beter at making more Canadians they wouldn’t have the policynof increasing the rolls through immigration and having to crawl to the likes of the Moslem hordes.
Well crap, there goes any possibility for me to have a fun-filled Canadian vacay.

By the way (and i know the news cycle is over on this), I was really affected by the death of Mary Tyler Moore. When I was in junior high school and high school, I would often make money babysitting on Saturday evenings, and the TV line up back then was the Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, The Carol Burnett Show (the triefecta of comedy gold), then the news, and then Saturday Night Live (when it was actually funny).
I remember the MTM Show as being funny, silly and irresitable. What a fabulous ensemble cast. You can watch all the episodes online on youtube (until they are forced to be removed). I watched many last week. Such a gentle time long gone. In one episode, Mary was helping Phyllis (Cloris Leachman) create a budget, using Mary’s budget as a guide. Mary earned $8,000 per year and her rent was $145 and she put aside $10 per month for clothing.
RIP, Mary.

I watched a couple of episodes after her passing and there was something I could not put my finger on that was so lovely about the show. “A gentle time” captures it exactly.

Of course, I watched the show. I was particularly interested in the news guy, Ted Baxter. Supposedly his character was based on an anchor on an LA station on a show I believe was called “Talk Back to the News.” I wish I could find a video of that show. It was hysterical because that man was truly a bigot. LOL His co-anchor was a very nice black man who used to make the funniest faces at things that guy said.

I don’t know what this was for, or if it was ever aired. I only posted it because it had a little bit with George Putnam on it. There was a show after the 10:00 news that I think was a 1/2 hr. long and people could call in and ask questions. It was George Putnam and Larry McCormick. I can’t even find it mentioned anywhere. It may not have lasted long.

We are a sadder and poorer people for losing that aspect of society, of community. Even in big cities, before welfare, before every man for himself, there were communities where people belonged, were valued, shared ethics and idiosyncrasies, like the Ted Baxters, but overall the people were bound.
These old shows make me think of when America really had a society and we Americans shared values and respect with our neighbors and our communities. And people knew that, and were better for wanting to be respected and well thought of. They were gentler and kinder because that is what caring relationships bring out in us.

You forget….there’s a lot of voters who thrive on lower octane fuel. Think Carter, Clinton I and almost II, they didn’t get where they were with voters making well-thought-out decisions. The huge number of children and young people at the Walk for Life in SF has always moved me deeply. And they are happy, like the two in that top picture of Impeach’s. More than happy–there is an inward joy and (especially in the case of the students and young adults) a passionate radiance of courage, commitment, and dedication.

A customer’s hardware store business had a problem with a backup tape that wouldn’t restore properly.
I found the problem in a section of the tape containing inventory descriptions, in the record for, “nipples, galvanized, Mexican”.
I can just hear Foghorn Leghorn braying, “MEXican GAAAALvinized NIPples, boy! Ain’t you got no sense?!!!”

One of the minuses, because life is plusses and minuses, of my new restaurant is that our bacon, which we put on various things, is like bacon-flavored paper. My old joint has the best bacon in town. It’s substantial. In thickness, in flavor.
Every other restaurant in town serves “bacon” that may as well be printed on Hammermill with an inkjet.

Wouldn’t be provided by a certain huge international restaurant supply company would it? I found a lot of their stuff from their plebeian line pushes the envelope on 3-D printing. I distonctly remember their combination jello-cold drink powder from Vietnam, as a geletin it barely managed to maintain a state tween semisolid and liquid. As a drink it was better than ditch water but as soon as you put ice it the ‘flavoring’ participated out in globules.
I do belive they may have provided the bacon too but in those days it was more like visually-flavored styrofoam. Close your eyes and you couldn’t tell what it was.

Noon news is reporting the roll call of overnight New Orleans cases of gunnnnnn violennnnnnce. Remember how I posted last week that a pizza delivery guy was robbed/shot/killed just about a block from our NOLA house? Well the junior high one of my sons went to, about a few blocks farther, was the scene of a shooting last night. Seems two conveniently unidentified males were denied access to a basketball game at the school for some reason. As they walked back to their car a second car pulled up and opened fire hitting the two denyees and peppering the school. No other casualties. High school there another of my sons went to has been a shooting gallery for decades.
Guess what the difference is between when we lived there and today…

I read a book more than a decade ago. Christian book, Christian publisher. It was about a news anchor who found Christ, discovered the truth of the Word, and Live, On Air, said screw it, and just started speaking the truth with no fear.
Wish I could remember who wrote it.
By literary standards it was pulp, but the premise was fun.
Like I said, imagine if Trump started speaking truth like Churchill.

Yes, and I found out the vet we saw yesterday is off today. I told a technician that if the results are a problem we would like to know ASAP.

I’ve been following your reports here and have been through that with all of our best doggies, with varied outcomes. When life is no longer satisfying or fun for them, our last loving act is to let them go: good advice given me by my big sister about 40 years ago.
The waiting is hard. Don’t wait for them to call – I agree with Stella – she’s your loving friend and news about her is their obligation to you. Hugz.

Yesterday was my last radiation treatment (yea!) and in that context I had a very nice and final conversation with treatment-buddy, a sweet lady in her mid-60s whose treatment was always just before mine. You do get to know each other a bit – sort of gathering new initial-friends along the way. It has nice moments. With the technicians, too.
Anyway, we got to talking about how our insurance plans were functioning, both of us being on Medicare. Her supplemental is an Advantage plan. The entire radiation series I am having is billed higher than this, but between Medicare and my Supplemental (State Farm) they will be actually paying about $80,000. Her Advantage plan requires her to pay $250 co- pay (plus doctor co-pay) for every treatment.
I suspect my premium is somewhat higher than hers (Mine is $196/mo) but I look at that higher premium as a health savings account function. We (Grant and I together) and me in this situation have more than received $ trade-off in spite of the higher premium which spares me cash debt that can come with co-pays.
People ought never see co-pays as a benefit for a lower premium. That reasoning works fine until you have 50 or 60 doctor appointments and have to pay 20% for treatments or whatever. Suddenly there are high bills, even with a low co-pay.
I am SO grateful that our State Farm auto office thoroughly explained their program to us when we hit 65. I live on a very tight budget but I do NOT have to be concerned about a single dime in medical bills – except my co-pay on prescriptions which is manageable. (Humana is the pits – don’t get me started).
I literally have not paid one dime on any of my hospital, doctor, diagnostics, or treatment since this started. A few hundred in gas expenses but that’s temporary. And there is a maybe a $147 deductible for the beginning of each year?….that I haven’t seen yet. Other than that, not a dime.
I had a cat scan along with every treatment (33 of them), continue to have every three month echo-cardiograms, etc. No charge to me.
I have learned to insist (for my own peace of mind) that the provider gets pre-approval for any treatment regiment before they begin. I do not want to have to worry about that…..and within the medical industry, there are things that Medicare agrees to and things they do not.
This is kind of long but wanted to share the fresh info about her experience with Advantage FWIW.

Yes, it is. Every November when they are pushing-pushing-pushing all the information and ads, it makes me crazy. I do not understand how anyone is supposed to be able to process and compare the bottom line impact – including the fact that we don’t know our own medical futures.
My premium was originally $148 (7 years ago) and goes up a bit every year.
Grant’s sister went on to Medicare a couple of years ago and some insurance man she knew told her she didn’t need to have a supplemental plan – that that whole industry was a con!!!!
Right now, based on what payments have been made on my behalf by my supplemental since last March, I would owe well over $30,000…..20% gets real ugly real fast, depending on the medicare care needed.
I’m just so grateful – believe me, we would have been clueless if our St Farm agents had not been serious about educating us.
It is SO hard to know what to do…..

Second vic in that school shooting I mentioned earlier died. He refused to talk to the police or cooperate in any way to identify who shot them. 77 shot in NOLA since first of January, 22 died.
