Went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse tonight with some of the wife’s extended family. Her real dad’s brother and wife were traveling through town, and we went with her mom and BF, and her brother and his family. It was nice, but super packed, and loud. Couldn’t hear a thing.

We were seated at a bar/table, tall, narrow, long. There were nine of us, and I was on the end, with a hard divider under the table, so I couldn’t even scoot closer. However, a very nice older couple came in and sat down right next to me, on the other side. They were retired. We ended up chatting quite a bit. They loved our family, and my 7-year-old nephew.

The gentleman was from Swiss, but had been in the States since he was basically old enough to do so. He said he had gone through the military in Switzerland, but fell in love with America because of John Wayne. He wanted to live where John Wayne lived, see what he saw, and be as free as he was. It was a big adventure, so he did it. Started out on the east coast, NY, NJ, and hated it. Lived in Omaha for 8-10 years, then made it to California. He’d been living in the San Fran bay area ever since.

His wife had tremendous fake boobs, and a fake deep tan, and new teeth. She was also retired, very nice to talk to, and dressed in a VERY nice red and black dress. She was dressed the nicest of anyone in the place (and believe me, it was very strange and disconcerting feeling to think “oh, nice boobs – oh, wait, old enough to be my grandmother…Ugh).

Anyway, I’m the most extraverted introvert anyone ever knows, and I was trying to spread the love, so we were talking a bit. I couldn’t resist tweaking (fake lady from CA has to hate Trump) so I asked her husband what he thought of Trump. He was super nice about it. He thought that were pros and cons, and had some serious concerns, but thinks that he also has some big plusses, and it was too early to say. He wanted to wait and see. He asked what I thought, and I told him I was cautiously optimistic. No need to barrel them over right at the start.

Anyway, the wife was every single stereotype you can imagine. She related a story on how she had to go to her therapist on the day after the election, and her therapist told her they are all in mourning, and have to help each other through it. She has scheduled a 10-day retreat at her Buddhist camp to center herself next week, so she can try to make it through his inauguration. *eyeroll*

Anyway, I infected them with my positivity. She kept remarking on how everyone in AZ is so nice (they were there just to get away from the rain in SF right now), and how much she was enjoying it. She couldn’t understand how I wasn’t worried, so I recommended Bridge of Spies to them, relating the story of the Russian who wasn’t worried, and when asked why not by Tom Hanks, he kept replying, “would it help?”

I also told her she’s a CA gal, and she should know how to spread the love and positivity. LOL. She seemed to take it to heart. She wanted to friend me on facebook (I don’t do facebook).

Anyway, that’s my story of doing my part to help break through the cloud and the fear for the anti-Trumpers and the ctrl-Lefties out there, while hijacking Stella’s blog yet again.

Apologies to Stella and all! Cheers, and happy Wednesday!

        This is not hollywood.
        This is the real world.

The recording shows the truck careening to a stop immediately in front of the two Marines. In all of the instantaneous violence Yale and Haerter never hesitated. By all reports and by the recording, they never stepped back. They never even started to step aside. They never even shifted their weight. With their feet spread shoulder width apart, they leaned into the danger, firing as fast as they could work their weapons. They had only one second left to live.

The truck explodes. The camera goes blank.

Two young men go to their God.

        Six seconds.

Not enough time to think about their families, their country, their flag, or about their lives or their deaths, but more than enough time for two very brave young men to do their duty, into eternity. That is the kind of people who are on watch all over the world tonight – for you.

For anyone interested, I found the rules for the Congressional Art Contest.. This is about that painting in Congress that is in the middle of a big controversy… anyway, here, take a look.

    Click to access 2016artcomp_rulesguidelinesdeadlines.pdf

As outlined in these guidelines, the final decision regarding the suitability of all artwork for the 2016 Congressional Art Competition exhibition in the Capitol will be made by a panel of qualified persons chaired by the Architect of the Capitol. While it is not the intent to censor any artwork, we do wish to avoid artwork that is potentially inappropriate for display in this highly traveled area leading to the Capitol. Artwork must adhere to the policy of the House Office Building Commission. In accordance with this policy, exhibits depicting subjects of contemporary political controversy or a sensationalistic or gruesome nature are not allowed.

So this painting should never have been selected in the first place.. It was a no brainer, seriously…. SMH

Iowahawk has been on fire on Twitter.

I just scrolled back through his comments to the 9th of January.

Amazing points about race, about the formerly “malicious” use of tertiary names, about the MSM depictions of The South, and some amazing revelations about Iowa.

Great thing about his thread, timeline, whatever you call it:

You don’t even have to read the conversation, or what he’s even responding to, because we’ve all heard the obvious lame openings he’s responding to for about 40-50 years!

It’s like the joke about life prisoners telling jokes! “Number 26!” Brings down the house.

That’s the same with us and what dave is only giving us replies to. He should just start numbering them, too.

Exclusive Excerpt – ‘Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer’

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-hollywood/2017/01/11/exclusive-excerpt-gosnell-untold-story-americas-prolific-serial-killer/

… What they said and the pictures they showed changed me. I am not the same person I was.

Abortion arguments from pro-abortion advocates tend to avoid any actual talk of how an abortion is done and what exactly it is that is being aborted. I know a lot about both now.

I now know that what is aborted is a person, with little hands and nails and a face that from the earliest times has expression. The humanity in all the pictures is unmistakable, the pictures of the babies that were shown as evidence in the Gosnell trial—first, second, and third trimester babies, in all their innocence and perfection …

I have a rule: if it makes Stella cry, I don’t need to watch it.

Sound and imagery together with the written word, they go a lot further into the emotional side of our brains. And I’ve read reams about this. I’ve seen plenty of photos. I’ve heard plenty of testimonies. I’ve read plenty of research threads. I’ve cried from studying all four, separately.

I guess I don’t need to see and hear them all together, layered, complete with an inevitably ominous orchestral soundtrack.

Some people do, though. Those who need all that to make decisions. Leftists.

        • Wooly Phlox says:

And when I say Leftists are people who need all that to make decisions, I mean it.

Common-folk leftists, non-activist leftists, they’re not readers, they’re not researchers.

They are, though, avid, vociferous TV-watchers, MSM-listening sheep.

They need that glass-and-mahogany anchor desk. Those well made-up, well-lit, well-coiffed personalities. They need that layering of file photos of generic documents over the little animated icon of a reel-to-reel recorder while the recorded interviewee speaks, with ominous music in the background.

It’s like crack cocaine. They need that techno-digital gavel sound in every episode of Law and Order, they need that audio-visual surprise at the end of every episode of LOST. These crack dealers have been designing this stuff since B&W.

My brother and I were talking about abortions the other night and I was telling him how I have always believed women should have to view an ultrasound before they kill their babies so they can see it’s not a lump of cells, but a little human baby.
He said he’s never believed a woman couldn’t know that, so he’d go one step farther and say if they want to kill a baby and think it’s so easy and no big deal then they should have to watch the entire thing on ultrasound.
