I visited the Jack Daniels distillery, years ago. They give free tours, it was very nice. They let you sniff the vats of mash,,, if you have ever tried that you know it will knock you sideways…. The funny thing is that the county is dry, you can’t drink JD where it is made.

Yup, the ‘dry county’ thing’s part of their ads. I live in a dry county, dry as a bone until about 3 years ago when the state changed the law and allowed cities in dry counties to vote ‘wet’.
One of the big reasons a few cities went was that there are two counties in Louisiana to the west and south of our county, each having gas stations cum booze outlets, that make millions each year off of nearby Mississippi residents who want liquor and lottery tickets. The Big City to the south has liquor by the drink at outlets and beer/wine sales at gas stations and food stores, the smaller city has beer sales. The two Louisiana stations are still raking in the cash as they sell a larger selection of fine screwtop wines and hard liquor by the bottle….plus lottery that Mississippi refuses to join.
Yeah, I did sniff mash barrels. Actually it was helping ‘shiners bust up that crust on mash barrels up on Sand Mountain and around Mentone about 50 years ago. Any lurkers from the Mountain area know that ain’t near as common a product being made as is up there now.

Two stories from when I visited the JD distillery:
The guide had taken into the cabin that was the original office, and after a little while, one of the women in the tour group started squealing. The tour guide asked her what all the ruckus was about, and she said she was a stamp collector, and the stamp on one of the envelopes in the rolltop desk was a real collectors item.
The tour guide picked up the envelope, looked at it a few seconds, then tore off the corner with the stamp, handed it to her, and said if she found any others, she could have them, too!
After the tour, about lunchtime, my girlfriend and I were looking at stuff in the lobby with the rest of the tour group when this little old lady sidled up to us and whispered, “You two look like a nice couple; would you like to join me for lunch? Just keep your eye on me, and when I leave, follow me!”
So we followed her to a big white clapboard boarding house sort of place, and realized as we arrived that a bunch of other people were following her, too.
We went inside to a long table set with linen, china, and silverware, and a black butler with a towel draped over his arm.
The lady sat at the head of the table and had us all sit and bow our heads. She gave a blessing that ended with, “. . . Amen. Pass to the left.”
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a huge flakey apple turnover for dessert.
After the meal, she thanked us for joining her and said we could now leave.

I bought one of those microwave egg poachers that everyone raved about here…gave it to wife for Christmas…she said she was hoping for a Bug Zapper instead….women, can’t live wiffem can’t…whatever….lol

I just used mine this morning. Dh was s’posed to give it to me for Christmas, but he forgot.. Worked pretty well, they ended up a bit on the well done side, but there are several variables, the power of the microwave, the size of the egg… so I think I can make it work..

She’s doing better, the baby has moved up and she’s not stuck to doing nothing and has been given the okay to pick up my grandson now. That is making him and her much happier.
He needs prayers tonight though. He was outside playing yesterday afternoon because it was up in the 60’s here. He came in from playing and took a nap, when he woke up my daughter noticed what looked like insect bites on him and put cortizone on it. This morning he woke up with a rash all over, she and my son-in-law took him to the ER, they said he was having an allergic reaction to something and gave him a prescription.
It put him to sleep for a few hours, when he woke up his rash had turned horrible. I’ve never seen anything like it, his legs and feet were totally red, almost looked like a sunburn and were all swollen. His poor little face looked like he had hives all over it and was puffy. Hives were everywhere. I went with my daughter to take him to his pediatrician, he prescribed him steroids, zantac and over the counter benadryl. As my daughter was getting him dressed she noticed his ankles and feet were blue and called the doctor back in. He sent him to the hospital lab for blood tests in case it was vasculitis, of course he threw out that word without saying if it was bad.
She just got off the phone with him about an hour ago and his blood work was good. So he says it’s an allergic reaction to something, but we can’t figure out what that something is.
My daughter is determined she’s not sleeping tonight from fear his throat is going to swell. So I told her when she gets tired call me and I will sit up and watch him.
The worst part is not knowing so it can be prevented.
Being a grandmother is worse than being a mother because you have to worry about two grandchildren and your child.

Prayers. My niece had a similar reaction when she was about 3, she ended up being allergic to grass but she out grew it. I hope you find the cause. 🙏🏼

I’ve seen allergic reactions before, but never anything this bad. He kind of freaked out the doctor, nurse, lab technician and pharmacist.
Doctor said it could be the grass, that when grass is dormant it actually produces more allergens, but that it could have even been something in the air.
He’s been sick for a few weeks with a virus and that the viral infection could have been a factor, causing his immune system to go into overdrive attacking a mild allergy.
That it could also have been a double whammy, he had an allergic reaction to something and then had another allergic reaction to an additive in the medicine the hospital gave him.
He didn’t sleep much last night because it finally started itching, but he looks ten times better this morning. The swelling is way down and you can actually see white skin today instead of everything being red.
The poor baby couldn’t even walk or stand yesterday afternoon, he would scream that it hurt. He had me scared to death because his little lip kept shivering and he kept saying he was cold, we couldn’t warm him up.
While we were waiting at the hospital the poor little guy just couldn’t stop shaking with us wrapping him in a blanket and wrapping our jackets around him.

It does sound similar to my nieces reaction, she could not walk, and pulled herself by her elbows into the house as she was out in the backyard playing with her 5 year old sister. It happened very suddenly and both of her legs looked like she had been beaten they were so blue. The rest of her body was splotchy.
I don’t remember (they lived in a different state at the time) is she was cold. My sister and all of us were terrified.
I hope whatever it is that the docs figure it out and he continues to heal. My niece ended up with an allergy medication but there was a certain time of the year that she didn’t go on the grass.

My daughter just talked to the doctor because his stomach and back had totally cleared up and within the last hour rash started to return.
He’s convinced now it was not an allergic reaction but caused from the viral infection. Treatment is still the same, but will take longer for it to go away. Allergic reaction would be gone within 48 hours, if caused from viral infection can take up to a week and possibly will have to be on steroids for 10 days instead of 5.
If he starts swelling again he has to go to Tulsa to Saint Francis where they can put him on IV treatment.

Well I guess that is good because an allergy would be an on going problem. So better a longer few days and be done with it.
It is cary that they are worried about him swelling I imagine your daughter and SIL aren’t getting much sleep. Hopefully the virus will run its course and he’ll bounce back quickly.

He’s finally doing better, he’s on his way back in for a checkup today.
This virus that is going around lasts for months so they say. It can happen in adults but is more likely in kids to cause this major rash/hives. The rest of us just keep the cold symptoms, but the poor little guy had to experience both and a worse case than any of the doctors and nurses had ever seen.
The baby is still transverse and fundal height is still running behind. She has another growth scan at 34 weeks. So far all the growth scans have shown her to be where or slightly above where she needs to be and they say it’s just precaution because they believe her uterus is spreading out instead of up because of the way the baby is laying.
She’s back down low, but still sideways.
They keep saying nothing to be concerned about until 37 weeks if she’s still transverse, but it’s hard not to be worried when they are doing growth scans every few weeks and making her see the doctor every week.
I know my daughter is worried, but she’s doing a good job of hiding it.

She was reading about some things you can do that will make them want to turn and called her doctor to see which ones are safe.
The little man got a good report from the doctor today. He said that they are just seeing so many different strains of viruses for the past 6 months and it’s possible it could happen again. In the long run though it’s a good thing as he will build up a lot of antibodies.
It’s hard to avoid unless you never leave the house because everywhere you go there are sick people.

So his little body is having a rough time fighting off the virus, so sorry but at least they have a handle on it and he is getting the best care. It seems like it is now a matter of nursing and loving him until the virus dies out. So sorry it is such a rough go for him and all of you.
I had 2 high risk pregnancies. The second I saw the good doc every week after about the 5th month. Everything worked out well but she was a scheduled C section and I did have to throw one doctor out of the room. Does your daughter have one doctor or a group of doctors? I had one which made me feel much better. (The one I threw out was there before my doctor arrived and suggested I try for a V-Bac) 🙄. It was obvious he knew nothing about my pregnancy or previous births.
Prayers for a healthy little girl in a few weeks. It sounds like she just found a comfy spot and decided it works for her. I’m happy they are monitoring her as if anything changes they can help right away.

She has just been seeing one doctor, but she told her that she’s going to be on leave for three weeks, so for her 36th, 37th and 38th week she’ll have to see someone else. She wasn’t too happy with that either, not that I can blame her.
This little girl I guess just can’t make up her mind, first she decided to go head down and see what the birth canal was like to scare everyone thinking she was going to make an early appearance to then deciding she didn’t like it in there and would prefer to spread out sideways. lol
I am so relieved the little man is doing so much better. They ran several tests and determined it was due to the virus. They said it would have went away on it’s own, but all the medication they gave him was to control the swelling until it went away. He at least still got to celebrate his 2nd birthday, although it was small with just the family. The past two days though he has been back to his loving self instead of cranky and fussy. Although, I think he got just a tad spoiled from being so sick. lol
The hardest thing about being a mom and Nanny is you can’t fix it all. You can just pray, worry and help out where you can.

Your daughter may be able to request a specific doctor while her regular doctor is gone.
The doctor I started with walked away the the OB/GYN practice to become a preacher and I had to start anew, I looked at the profiles which allowed me to also hear some of them talk and picked a doctor who I ended up preferring to my original doctor who I had already liked very much.
After my daughter was born he said the first thing a baby should hear is song so what is your request, I requested Ave Maria, which he sang beautifully 🙂 . My daughter still loves the song.
Soon your little girl will be here with bells on her toes 🙂

She’ll be seeing who covers for her. Although she did tell her if the ultrasound shows anything wrong, which she doesn’t suspect or the baby doesn’t turn, she has talked to a clinic in another town about taking her higher risk women while she’s gone.
My daughter is going to meet the one covering for her next week and decide if she wants her or to give the other place a try. The other doctors are who covers for her if she ever can’t get to the hospital. I guess this other lady is not accredited there.

I caught a stomach bug that has put me out of commission for a few days.
Good news is my daughter is doing better, the ornery little girl has decided to move up some, but now she’s decided she doesn’t like head down position, so we’re hoping she’ll soon decide to get her head back down. lol Less than 8 weeks until due date though, so she’ll be here before we know it.

Less than 8 weeks! Woo hoo! I had an emergency C section with my first kiddo because she simply refused to come out. I think she spent all nine months just kicking my bladder 😄

She was 32 weeks Tuesday. I do believe this baby is going to be bigger than her first one, she already looks to me like she’s as big now as when she went in to have him, although he was a few weeks early.
While we were waiting forever at the hospital there was this teenage girl who had come in who had hurt her arm on a trampoline. You would have thought this girl had broken every bone in her body the way she was acting. Girly to the extreme including whining that crying was ruining her expensive makeup. I told my daughter that I kid her about my granddaughter being a girly girl, but I sure hoped she wasn’t that girly. lol

So I have found myself in an odd mood, I am debating pulling out the jigsaw puzzle that is 1/3 done, or reading more about the issues around Israel. On one hand it bothers me that I am so ignorant, on the other hand I recognize that for the most part I live in a bubble. I did learn from an interview on the news that the Israeli settlers are very upset, and that Israel is about the size of NJ. I was thinking it might be nice if we could just split off a large hunk of California( or Texas) and just give it to them, but I know that it just isn’t that simple. It was a really nice bubble, I hate to see it breaking up.

Give them the US/Mexican border area from California to El Paso. If what they did in 60-odd years with the desrt areas the Palestinians hadn’t managed to do anything with for thousands of years is an example things should go great.
Let ’em keep their nukes too as they can use them to deal with the terrorist training camps in the same area on the Mexican side, camps run by ISIS among others, that the US and Mexican governments have sort of admitted are there but won’t deal with.

They have made the desert “bloom”. From what I was told, basically a discarded piece of land that had been stripped of every good resource. Barren, all the trees had been cut down. Nothing but swampland and mosquitoes. Was given back to them because nobody else wanted it any longer.
Heard the climate is actually changing, from dry and arid to more rain and moderate. Now that they have rebuilt the wasteland, others now claim it as theirs. Pathetic.

They’d be appreciated here by the right folks, have a work ethic and make rather than take money. They could leave all they’ve accomplished on Palestinian hands and let the world see how long it would take them to run it into the ground. And you’d make millions of Mormons happy when the Jews came here as the Mormons could prove to the world their belief of the area being the new Zion was correct.

My God father gave me a plaque from Israel which reads Shalom in Hebrew. It is made from stones found in Israel. Truly one of my most prized possessions. Israel is the root of Christianity, the ground is holy, the people are holy.

It is a gathering spot for BLM.
Once I was in Chicago for a Blackhawks game, there were at least 50 CPD on the square alone. All kinds of idiots with BLM signs, posters boards with long lists of their heroes such as Mike Brown and Eric Gardner 🙄 they were blowing obnoxious sounding whistles, screaming about their plight and about how terrible America is. SMH.
No gun fire though.
Made me sad and angry as the Water Tower Place holds so many good memories for me.

When I was in high school we used to go get sandwiches at a Jewish Deli in the John Hancock Center and then go eat by the Water Tower Place.

I loved a deli there (can’t think of the name)! I used to take my coworkers when we were in town for conventions. I moved from Chicago while Hancock was still being built (1971). My other favorite is the bar at the top of the Hancock building.

I can’t remember the name! But that could be it. It was owned by two Jewish brothers and their sandwiches were mainly meat. I’ll try searching for it.

Kaplan’s was the first restaurant of the Levy Restaurant group, so that’s probably the same one. They had all kinds of crazy named sandwiches, like “Ike and Tina Tuna”, and others named after locals like Mike Royko and Hugh Hefner (ADD: topless club sandwich).

Progressive mantras such as “love trumps hate” get it completely wrong. Those who use them seem to believe that good people are motivated by love, while bad people are motivated by hate. However, love and hate are not somehow in opposition; they are joined together at the hip. A person will always hate the opposite of what he loves. Moreover, hatred is always the proper response to something that is truly odious.
The eighteenth-century American theologian Jonathan Edwards understood this well. In his book of sermons about love, titled Charity and Its Fruits, he wrote, “From love arises hatred of those things which are contrary to what we love, or which oppose and thwart us in those things that we delight in[.] … From a vigorous, affectionate, and fervent love to God, will necessarily arise other religious affections: hence will arise an intense hatred and abhorrence of sin.”
When someone mistreats a beloved family member, that person naturally incurs a strong negative reaction from others in the same family. Likewise, Edwards believed that genuine love for God produces hatred for those things that offend God and considered this hatred a necessary evidence of real Christian love. Clearly, he did not hold to the modern psychotherapeutic concept of love as “unconditional acceptance.” The nineteenth-century Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon concurred, remarking, “It is well to be a good hater.” Men like Edwards and Spurgeon were simply taking to heart passages in the Bible such as Proverbs 8:13 (“the fear of the Lord is to hate evil”) and Psalm 97:10 (“hate evil, you who love the Lord”).

The Market Commons in Myrtle Beach has been having a growing NY Eve Celebration. For a small place it gets thousands of people. There are bands, food, fireworks, it is all nice, and family friendly. They are advertising it as the “Southern Times Square”. Dh just said that he hoped they had dump trucks blocking the access roads, he fears an event such as Berlin. We have plans to attend our friend’s community center party, but now I am worried. I better get my butt moving and stop lollygagging.

For about the last twenty years New Orleans has had a Times Square New Years event in the Quarter at the old Jax Brewery. Unlike NYC you can legally have booze (not in a glass container) and 32 ounce soft drinks on the street.
When they first started it they had a huge baby, atop the buolding, with a wicked grin. The baby dropped…and the baby’s diaper dropped too. That lasted a few years until the prudes forced the dropped diaper to be dropped. The baby was then given what a different group of prudes decried as a ‘demonic grin’ and continued on sliding the pole until 2015 when a flimsy excuse for discontinuing the baby brought in a more conventional ball. The party crowds can still booze freely but we’ll see how long that lasts, this new non-New Orleans influx of New Orleans residents is changing the culture.

Yeah, we used to eat at a nice restaurant that faced the river…all gone now, the Brewery devolved into a large tourist schlock mall. We lost interest in it years ago, I understand that like every other failed vision in the city thry’re turning it into condos.

In Atlanta they have a Peach Drop , but in Tallapoosa Georgia, they have “The Possum Drop”! It used to use a live possum, but PETA stuck their nose in so now it’s a big stuffed possum.
They use a possum because the name of the town used to be Possum Snout, Georgia.
This year, they will also have an “Eagles” tribute band, so it looks like a good time.
This is in West Georgia, but near us in Helen, GA. They will have “The Eidelweiss Drop”.
We have a lot of weird drops in Georgia!

Other white cultures also have unique identities, but don’t have any prominent champions. I happen to be Anglo-Saxon. Well, Poles are Slavs and Slavic influences washed over Baltic, Romanian and Hungarian cultures but my major point of disagreement is that those ciltures do have national heroes, they just aren’t advertised in the US. How about Jan Sobieski who led the united Polish-Lithuanian forces at the battle in Vienna that drove the Moslems back to Moslem lands? Kazimierz Pulaski, Polish general who came to the US after a stellar career in Poland and died in our Revolutionary War leading US troops against the British?
Tadeusz Kosciuszko, another Polish officer who came to the US and also commanded troops in the Revolutionary War. Pope Paul II?
I guarantee each other country mentioned has its national heroes too, they just ain’t exported and adopted like our national heroes are…you know, the music, acting and sports heroes with drug problems, kids they aren’t suppirting and other issues that they aren’t responsible for.

My take: Putin is a neo-Soviet, he’s interested in Russia empirical hegemony only. He wants to see both Israel and the US reduced to 2nd or 3rd world status so he can maneuver Russia as THE world power.
My friends and I are old Cold War warriors as is Putin. I don’t believe Putin loves the US, after a lifetime of working to destroy us, any more than we’ve become Russophiles post perestroika. If you look at the major Russian military developments over the last nearly twenty years theybare designed to counter US military tactics, not European or Chinese. That sound like they’re trying to be bath-buddies? Their spying against the US is close to exceeding Cold War levels and their direct cyber sttacks on US military and vital government/civilian targets increases every year. Putin was, is and will remain to be a product of the old Soviet KGB philosophy.

I’m of the same mind as you about Putin. He is KGB heart, mind, will and soul. Reagan humiliated the Soviets, America humiliated the Soviets and Putin hated us long before the “end” of the cold war.
The caveat I had is that we do have a common enemy in Islam.
That said.
I talked with my friend who served in Vietnam and he laughed at me and said “Really?” “The only thing that stopped the Soviets from turning Afghanistan into a parking lot was their fear of US retaliation. Putin is not afraid of Islam as a viable enemy because he will flatten the ME. Europe will collapse on itself as it is already self immolating due to their “Save the refuge programs” (Refuge is his word not mine) “and the United States is underwater. Putin needs the US to keep a global economy afloat, for resources and to keep China in check, but to bomb Islam back into the stone age? No.”
For me Christianity is a tool in Putin’s hand no different than the sickle.
Then there is the Putin loves his country sentiment which seems to have been adopted by his promoters on the Right. Well of course Putin loves his country, it is the Russian people below him that he does not seem so concerned with other then emotionally exploiting their love of Mother Russia for Putin’s own benefit.
Putin’s personal wealth would make Trump look like a pauper if all the red threads were followed to their nest eggs.
That said we do not need a war with Russia so playing the diplomacy game is likely to go on unless Obama throws a few nukes at them on his way out the door.

Russia’s main problem in Afghanistan was that it was not prepared to fight an offensive war. As I’ve said/believe, Russia’s military was primarily designed to be a defensive arm, they could not even manage to maintain effective offensive operations in a nstion right on their borders.
From available open source info Russia even tried offensive chemical warfare but blew it, their air war was an equal disaster even before we gave the Muj MANPADS. If there was ay reason at all for Russian military and political figures to hate us it was our exploitation of their military’s weakness in Afghanistan, just payback for their backing of North Vietnam.
Look at how they quashed the Chechens, finally saying to hell with Western and Mideast whining and totally flattening Grozny to the ground, forcing the Moslem warlords to surrender. That was a lesson for the Moslems who’d back attacks against Russia, the old Russia’s gone, the new Russia’s here, no more Mr Nice Guy. They don’t need our apologist, hand-wringing help, they will go against those who attack Russia without our help and using the most effective methods, methods the Moslems understand and don’t wish to deal with.

Problem with that is after Israel, Jordan’s perhaps are biggest ally in the area. Jordan was the one who pushed the Palestinians out of Jordan and started the whole Black September thing that led us to a decade of international Palestinian terrorism, heavily funded by Russia.
Jordan’s been a target of Islamic and pan-Arabist terr groups for decades as it’s also a good friend of Israel. The Jordanian military has kept Islamic/Palestinian terrs at bay for decades ans assisted the US and Israell in many ways, I say let ’em expans Jordan’s borders.

Palestine to me is a Mideast version of American public housing/entitlement residents writ large. An independent state would just be a different excuse to get free money from international sources to live larger on the dole.

Never forget (heh) that the “Palestinian People” was invented out of whole cloth by Jordan and Egypt. Show me a Palestinian postage stamp. Or a coin or bill.
It’s always been fake. A nation that never existed. Arafat was Egyptian.
And they even projected it, in the 1950’s when they said how they would invent this mythical “Palestinian People.” They said this, out loud, in the open.

If we go back to the end of WW I the creation of Palestine and what could technically be called Israel was the result of the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire by the UN’s predecessor, the League of Nations. Coming up on a hundred years and the UN still can’t get it right.

Embassies are sovereign land. How can Obama expel Russians off of their own land even if it is the US? Isn’t that an act of war?

I think countries can expel ambassadors out of the country. They do it all the time. I don’t know what happens to the embassy.

Well I learned something new, while embassies enjoy a status equal to being sovereign soil they are not lawfully called sovereign . The Vienna convention provisions give an embassy a protected status which really treats them as sovereign. Law enforcement of the host nation cannot enter without permission. So if Putin really wanted to embarrass Obama he could just tell the diplomats being expelled not to leave the embassies.
Losing power must be terrifying for the oligarchy.

Lady in my alley, working at the wine shop, just wished me a happy new year, said there’s only two days left. I said, “And only 20 then until President Trump!”
