GospelMT 2:13-18
When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.
When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi,
he became furious.
He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity
two years old and under,
in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.

BTW, my “eye-opener” to the prolife viewpoint (I went to a UC, after all, and knew NOTHING about it) was a book entitled Rachel Weeping: The Case Against Abortion. Very good book; it turned my thinking around, 180 degrees:

Impeach!!! The fire is Banked! It’s 33*, wind W 8-12, overcast. This warm spell has me working overtime. Finished late last night re-doing the boards on the baled hay shed. Was having water damage. Cows were sold, and loaded yesterday, started to clean up the manure, finished outside, today’s task is inside. Noticed to sagging of the barn, by a 1/4 inch, and a crew of Amish will be here after 8 AM to re level the structure…. Better to work now, warm……..

We had a group of Amish people do the roof on our tractor barn. They did a great job so Dh asked if they would stain/paint it. They started while we were away and when we came back we found a bunch of children doing the job,,, from like 18 down to 4. The little ones weren’t actually working.. but they did the job… I felt pretty awful. They were very well taken care of, they had a lunch that was an actual feast, but still.

A friend from New York state told me there was trouble brewing between the Old Order Amish and the state housing authority, which had just mandated that windows have a certain minimum size so that in the event of a fire, an obese person would be able to fit through the window.
The Old Order Amish ignored them, continuing to build houses as they have for generations.
The “authorities” backed down and made an exception for the Amish, none of whom are obese, BTW.

From a recent speech by Vladimir Putin:
A further challenge for the national Russian identity is connected to the processes we observe outside of Russia. They include foreign policy, moral, and other aspects. We see that many Euro-Atlantic states have taken the way where they deny or reject their own roots, including their Christian roots which form the basis of Western civilization.
In these countries, the moral basis and any traditional identity are being denied – national, religious, cultural, and even gender identities are being denied or relativised. There, politics treats a family with many children as juridically equal to a homosexual partnership; faith in God is equal to faith in Satan. The excesses and exaggerations of political correctness in these countries indeed leads to serious consideration for the legitimization of parties that promote the propaganda of paedophilia.
The people in many European states are actually ashamed of their religious affiliations and are indeed frightened to speak about them. Christian holidays and celebrations are abolished or “neutrally” renamed, as if one were ashamed of those Christian holidays. With this method one hides away the deeper moral value of those celebrations.
And these countries try to force this model onto other nations, globally. I am deeply convinced that this is a direct way to the degradation and primitivization of culture. This leds to deeper demographic and moral crisis in the West.
What can be better evidence for the moral crisis of human society in the West than the loss of its reproductive function? And today nearly all “developed” Western countries cannot survive reproductively, not even with the help of migrants.
Without the moral values that are rooted in Christianity and other world religions, without rules and moral values which have formed, and been developed, over millennia, people will inevitably lose their human dignity and become brutes. And we think it is right and natural to defend and preserve these Christian moral values.
One has to respect the right of every minority to self-determination, but at the same time there cannot and must not be any doubt about the rights of the majority.
At the same time as this process plays out at a national level in the West, we observe on an international level the attempts to create a unipolar, unified model of the world, to relativise and remove institutions of international rights and national sovereignty. In such a unipolar, unified world there is no place for sovereign states. Such a world needs merely vassals.
From a historical perspective, such a unipolar world would mean the surrender of one’s own identity and of God-created diversity.
I never thought I would respect the leader of Russia, or Russians, like I do.

Good morning, Wooly! As someone who had made a living writing speeches for Russian “big shots,” I can tell you that most of them don’t even know what they are saying, beyond a general direction given to the writer. I am sure American politicians do the same, but Trump strikes me as being extemporaneous, even in his blunders.

What Vox Day says:
No wonder they hate and fear him so. He is a true nationalist who is not afraid to stand up in defense of both Christianity and the West… and he has nukes. For those casting about for the true leader of the Alt-Right, there is a strong candidate.
The Left hates Russia now, because it’s Christian, and nationalist.
The same Left that hated America because it was Christian and nationalist.
It’s amazing to witness.

Sort of ironic, no?

He oesn’t deserve your respect. He is repeating the ideas of Prince Vladimir who had converted Russia to Christianity a thousand years ago. Vladimir didn’t do it because he suddenly “got religion”; in fact, he sent envoys to explore different religions and made a decision based mainly on one criterion: unifying the country under one strong religion that will support one strong ruler. Putin is doing the same, i.e. aiming for monarchy.
LikeLiked by 2 people
I don’t see it as a problem. Good for him. Good for them.
Russia will have its monarchy. The rest of the West will have imported their destroyers, killers, thieves, and rapists. All I can say is, Long Live the King.
Why does Putin have a 93% approval rating?
Because he gives a s*** about his people, over and above people who are NOT his people.
Can’t say that about the West. No, we care more about the children of people living on other continents, half a world away, than we do our own children.
So, if a leader makes a calculated political decision that Christianity is a fine unifying principle? Good. Because it is.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, yes, as long as it comes with respect and tolerance for other religions. Russian polls and Russian statistics are based on creative accounting. I remember watching the votes coming in when Yeltzin was elected. When they added up to 137%, I realized that nothing has changed there and nothing will. I agree with you that Russia will have its monarchy, otherwise its anarchy. They need “Batyushka Tzar” – the father figure.

Love you, Dolly, and I don’t want to argue.
You cannot tolerate ideologies that are intolerant. That’s the program-breaking error right there. If there exists a religion which tells its adherents to murder or enslave or rape everyone who doesn’t belong to said religion, it behooves a society which cares about its own people to absolutely BAN the practice of said religion.
Russia is not going to have another Beslan.

Love you right back, Wooly, and you are right: I suffered from discrimination and persecution myself and saw many other people suffer, and I have fought intolerance and will do so again, if need be. This is not about religion; it is about mistrust for anything Russian leaders say and do.

I have a rather thick book from the 80s on how the USSR (read as ‘Russia’) used disinformation (propoganda) as a tool to control people and their perceptions. Putin is a nationalist but he’s also a product of old-school cummunists and about all that’s changed is management’s business plan, not its goals or techniques.
Putin will play any card, including the religious one, as part of his agenda. I have a hard time believing he survived his time in the KGB as a crypto-Christian or that he’s had a post-USSR spontaneous conversion any more than I’d believe Hillary had she made that speech.

We see that, since Beslan, they don’t allow Islam in Russia. Good.
They don’t allow gay couples to adopt children. Good.
While we hear his words, we also see results. Those results, so far, are good.

Maybe there is a right and wrong way to cook a goose? But my dad, who hunted them for food as a young man let me know that, had I asked him he would have told me they were greasy meat. So, I never tried again, but as they are so expensive, and so many nice restaurants do them, it had to be me.

Goose is excellent, mostly dark meat, and yes, there’s a right way to roast it. Both geese and ducks have a considerably higher percentage of fat than most fowl and it’ll be greasy if you let it roast in a pan full of the rendered fat. We prefer to smoke them, but if you only have an oven put the 100% thawed bird on a rack in a roasting pan and remove the rendered fat with a baster on an as need basis (every 30 min). The rendered fat makes excellent soup stock too.
We like to spatchcock the bird, apply a generous dry poultry rub on ~ 12 hours before roasting and then brush on a glaze of your choosing at the last 15-30 min before the internal temp hits whatever you want it to. We use a high quality meat thermometer and roast to that number, not hours per lb. Good chance your oven temp is off by a lot more than you think the dial says, ours is really 350° when the dial is at 280°. That’s a perfect way to screw up a perfectly good bird that’s soaked in its own fat for a few hours in a too hot oven.
There’s a guy named Malcom Reed who has some youtube videos of smoking everything, including ducks, which is how we smoke our geese. His instructions transfer to an oven as well.

My wife makes them every so often. We just had one for Christmas dinner in fact. She stuffs them with halved apples sometimes.

My plan is to treat it like a big duck. Our friends had one at Christmas and liked it.

John Kerry basically said everything is Netanyahu and the Israel’s faults, he said no administration has done more to keep Israel safe than the Obama administration.

I didn’t listen to all of it nor any of it live. I just heard the clip of Kerry saying that the Obama administration has been the most protective of any administration when it comes to protecting Israel. A friend texted me that a liberal pundit (Jake Trapper) just said “Kerry makes another attempt to bring peace to Israel and Palestine”.
It’s a mad world.

Been seeing headlines recently bemoaning the rise of populism.
Strikes me that populism is just another word for democracy, but our betters think otherwise:
It’s a triumph of democracy when they win, but the tragedy of populism when they lose.

Wheeeeeeeee…government lost (it says) $105-million last year minting pennies as each penny costs more than a penny to make. Now, let’s see…Feds could find that much money in their couch cushions. Since when does the Feds losing/wasting money bother the Feds?
Interesting is that the various sources reporting this loss, saying they are relying on Fed figures, cone up with differing production costs for each penny. Guess that’s what happens when you get two liars together to try and come up with a truth.

They’ve been taking about the coins again for awhile. Pennies changed from mostly copper about 1982 I think. Now it’s zinc with a copper jacket. Nickel is still the same as it has been all this time, but that will change too. There is a website somewhere that has the melt value of coins and nickels are over due. It’s around 13-17 cents to make a nickel.

I never carry loose change, job habit. Every few months I go to the supermarket and pour my jar of change onto a machine whose coin counting abilities are unregulated by our state and also charges me ten percent to make the count.

We’ve got a couple of milk jugs full of coin. I go to the bank for paper tubes every few years. I go through them looking for wheat pennies. I’ve got about 30 now (took 10 years).

The banks get Eisenhower dollars every so often and I get them when I see them before the tellers send them back, not knowing what the heck they are. I remember getting silver coin in the early 70’s once in a while, or the silver certificates, but nothing in day to day transactions since them. I’ve ended up with a couple of 1980’s $100 bills this year and a while bunch of 1976 $2’s but that was at the bank again.

As I’d mentioned, the Helmsleys hired me when owned the Towers to do their nighttime security. A few of their residents used to have me go to the bank next door and get them bags, BIG bags, of dimes, quarters and half dollars. Even though silver had been removed from the country’s coins 9 years earlier there was still a lot in circulation and thry took a lot of spare time combing thru bags of cash to look for them.
I thought it was excess energy spent on scant return but they assured me that it wouldn’t be long before silver was worth a lot more than it was at the time. I thought it was a waster for them to stay in their bunker and hunt…..it was worth a shot….but they won in the end.

I’ve heard that the international commercial banks had been paying each other in US coin for decades and now the bags are ending up for sale at melt value on the open market.

In the early 60s in Germany the merchants took US silver coins in direct exchange for goods. A dime was worth 50 pfennigs, a quarter was worth one mark, and so forth. After 64 they’d take the pre-64 silver coins but otherwise wanted German currency.

Think I posted this before too, but…
The MSM savaged Leons as The Queen of Mean and the government went after her with a vengeance. I’m still wondering how much of that was punishment for her and Harry having shoehorned Jews into WASP Palm Beach, where Trump’s being savaged for continuing the ciltural insult, but……
Anyway, it was about ten years after I left Trump employment and I was back on active duty again. I was sent to a conference in Orlando and Czarina came with me. Imagine my surprise when we get to the conference site and I find we’re staying in the Helmsley hotel there. As we’re checking in I the desk clerk how it was working for the Helmsleys as I’d worked for them when the Towers was new. He made some passing comment, gave us our keys and we were off to our room.
A few hours later we were eating donnerbin the hotel’s restaurant when the hotel manager came over to our table. He said he’d heard from the clerk that I’d worked for the Helmsleys and called corporate in NYC to say an ex-employee was staying there. They’d confirmed my status and ran it ‘by the boss’ who said that the hotel’s car was to be put at our disposal and free passes to Disney World would be available for our entire stay. The conference ate up all of my time but Czarina had a blast.
RIP Harry and Leona, that’s how they treated employees who did what they were paid to do.

I used to do that too. Then I bought this jar with a lid that counts the money. After weeks of adding money and verifying that the running total was correct, we stopped checking it except periodically. Yep, a quarter adds 25 cents.
So, when the jar got full I took it and cashed it in at one of those machines. Which said I had way, way less money than I knew was in the jar, aside from the fee. No way to complain or get a recount. That was the end of my relationship with the machine.

Another win for our crypto-Moslem, pan-Africanist POtuS-lite. The battle for Raqqa, which he hoped to have started well before he left office, seems to be delayed for weeks, if not months. Barry wanted it started so that if it were won, regardless of when it was won, he could claim victory as it began under his reign. Were it lost he could blame Trump as it wouldn’t be finished until after 20 January.
Even though the battle’s still delayed I’m betting he’ll claim credit as it was planned in the Warrior King’s battle room. Even if the battle fails it will do so under Trump but Obamaceill pass the blame. Win-win for the Man Without a Country.
I am betting thoughnthat DoD planners will unleash their best anti-Mosle-terr planning for Trump. I’m looking for a period of Trump-ordered sanitization of the Pentagon, putting the planners who view their job of defending the country as more important than kissing the Ass’s ass. Trump, I pray, will view turning warm, breathing enemies of this country into room temperature enemies of the country. I can guarantee that if he takes the job of sterilzing the world of murdering Moslems seriously he’ll find enough dedicated members of the military to do it.
