Yah, warmed up here too, Colonel. We’re back up to 20* since a thick cloud cover moved in last night. Prolly means more snow in the near future. Time to snuggle down, light a fire in the woodstove and appreciate all the beautifully wrapped packages under the Christmas tree. No where to be until 9 pm Mass, and unlike Menagerie I’m not doing a mountain of cooking. Merry Christmas, Sir!

It now approaches that special time before Midnight Mass known as drinking and nap time!

    Seen on the web:

Dear Alec Baldwin and other Hollywood A-listers,

You exist for my entertainment. Some of you are great eye candy. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you can scare the crap out of me. Others make me laugh. But you all have one thing in common, you only have a place in my world to entertain me. That’s it.

You make your living pretending to be someone else. Playing dress up like a 6 year old. You live
in a make believe world in front of a camera. And often when you are away from one too. Your entire existence depends on my patronage.

I’ll crank the organ grinder; you dance.

I don’t really care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your stance matters far less to me than that of my neighbor. You see, you aren’t real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer and you cease to exist in my world. Once I am done with you, I can put you back in your little box until I want you to entertain me again.

I don’t care that you think the BP executives deserve the death penalty. But I bet you looked cute saying it.

And you? Really? I’m supposed to care what the director of fluffy tripe made for gullible people thinks about global warming or gun control? Get back into your bubble. I’ll let you know when I’m in the mood for something blue and shiny.

Make me laugh, or cry. Scare me. But realize that the only words of yours that matter are scripted. I might agree with some of you from time to time, but it doesn’t matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment.

So, shut your pie hole and dance!”

The Russian Orthodox church is very vibrant here in Alaska, especially in many of the Yup’ik Eskimo villages. They celebrate Russian Christmas as Slaavik (SLAW-vick) from January 7th to the 13th. Every night of that week is a feast night, and 2 or 3 homes in each village host an open house each night (different homes each night). Every home has a shrine in the living room with icons on the wall and the priest leads long rounds of prayer before lots of eating. A hundred people or more are packed into the small houses for these events. The family empties out their freezers to provide the best possible spread, and it is a great honor to have the priest bless their house. Children receive small gifts every night of Slaavik. People spend weeks preparing for it.

The Russian Orthodox churches I have been to often have a piano. What they don’t have is pews or chairs. The congregation stands for the entire service. And their services are known for being long. Two hours is a minimum; some run 4 hours.

The Byzantine Catholic Church is what I belong to not the Russian Orthodox Church. The BCC is under the Pope but their practice is from the Eastern Rite. Pope John Paul’s mom was a Byzantine Catholic 🙂 Russian Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic are two separate churches.

No instruments. No statues. Only human voices and icons. The church I belonged to did not have pews but it did have chairs, the Byzantine church in DC has pews around the perimeter of the chapel for the elderly or sick.

The mass in my opinion is simply beautiful. Mass at our church was generally 2 hours but we were mostly young families with young children. After mass probably 80% of the people stayed and we would have a potluck lunch and our children would play together.

Hollywood propagandists have been at the forefront of prog social engineering for decades. The value of movies and TV programs as tools of cultural change is well established, just look at the proliferation of 90s programs featuring warm, fuzzy LGBT characters to ease the way for the flood of LGBT legislation. It’s been downhill since then.

Imagine shows with good humor, drama, and yes, even morals-of-the-story — which every TV show has, now — but all showcasing our morals, instead of those of the Progs.

          Those all had to go.

Every TV show now still has a Moral-of-the-story at the end, but that message is now, “If you don’t think like a Progressive, then you suck.”

I figured that out 15 years ago. I was 20 years too late.

Progs saw straight, white traditional males as the threat. Merely elevating the status of the targeted oppressed group wasn’t enough, the reduction of the targeted oppressor group to drooling idiot status was necessary to speed the process and seal the deal. Dad was reduced to the buffoon while Mom was elevated to martyr. Later on we started seeing martyr Mom and kids being abandoned to founder on the rocks of cruel reality while feral Lothario dad rins off with Jennifer.
Not having geen satisfied with ruining the black nuclear family the progs set sights on the whites…and here we are.

Good story thanks to I believe it was Amwick. I shared the coffee thing a few weeks back, how good Starbucks Thanksgiving coffee was, but no longer available, and shown site online to purchase. I did, bought 2 pounds, wrapped one for my daughter and stashed the other in my sock drawer so she wouldn’t see.
Last night she asked if I wanted an early gift, and of course said yes. To my surprise she produced a pound of same coffee! She had been to a random Starbucks and there were 2 left on the shelf! I then went and got hers from under the tree, and we both shared a treasured moment.
    So thank you.

He makes the assumption the star is in the east because it’s to the right. I don’t know if that’s a valid assumption, since Israeli maps have east at the top, so the right would be south. East at the top makes sense before the discovery of magnetic north, or observations that the north star stays fixed while other stars rotate around it during the night. East is where the sun rises, so it’s a good reference point. I suspect that historically, it’s not just the Israelis that have east at the top of their maps.

The songs gifts are hidden meanings to the teachings of the faith.
The “true love” mentioned in the song doesn’t refer to an earthly
suitor, it refers to God Himself. The “me” who receives the
presents refers to every baptized person. The partridge in a pear
tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In the song, Christ is
symbolically presented as a mother partridge which feigns injury
to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, much in memory of
the expression of Christ’s sadness over the fate of Jerusalem:
“Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often would I have sheltered thee under
my wings, as a hen does her chicks, but thou wouldst not have it
        so…”

The other symbols mean the following:

2 Turtle Doves = The Old and New Testaments
3 French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues
4 Calling Birds = the Four Gospels and/or the Four Evangelists
5 Golden Rings = The first Five Books of the Old Testament, the
“Pentateuch”, which gives the history of man’s fall from grace.
6 Geese A-laying = the six days of creation
7 Swans A-swimming = the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven
sacraments 8 Maids A-milking = the eight beatitudes
9 Ladies Dancing = the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
        10 Lords A-leaping = the ten commandments
11 Pipers Piping = the eleven faithful apostles
12 Drummers Drumming = the twelve points of doctrine in the
        Apostle’s Creed.
