Exchanging morning pleasantries with the building custodian, he told me the folks in suited 550 have a party after work every Friday. I work on the 5th floor, so I asked him if they allowed other people into their party. He thought maybe, so when I got to the 5th floor, I looked for suite 550.
I was disappointed to discover that it’s the suite where I work.
      So much for rumors.
Musta got it from Big Media.

Oscars: Scorsese Shows up with “Silence,” a Masterwork That Will Ambush Current Awards Race

    http://www.showbiz411.com/2016/12/08/oscars-scorsese-shows-up-with-silence-a-masterwork

Martin Scorsese has ambushed the Oscar race with Silence, a Masterwork movie about faith and ideas that rocks everything we’ve been dealing with. Andrew Garfield may win the Oscar for best actor. But this is the Big Idea movie Hollywood has lacked for some time. …

And that’s pretty interesting since this is faith based movie and I am neither Catholic nor Christian and don’t have a tremendous interest in Jesus. But “Silence” doesn’t require that– it’s a universal message that I think will be embraced by every intelligent moviegoer. Not only, there is some humor, and there is Scorsese violence including one scene where a man literally loses his head.

But this is Japan in the 1600s, and it’s a savage, brutal place where Christianity is being rebuked. “Silence” is based on the 1966 novel by Shūsaku Endō about two Portugese Jesuit priests (Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver) who are sent to Japan as missionaries. They are following in the footsteps of their mentor, played by Liam Neeson. …

I may be wrong. But this is what I think right now. This has been a good season for Oscar films and there are plenty– “La La Land,” “Manchester by the Sea,” “Lion,” “Moonlight,” “20th Century Women,” “Arrival,” “Sully.” But “Silence” is different, it’s the Big Picture. It’s a discussion of who we are and how we got here. In a world where religious persecution is more prevalent than ever, it’s also about who we can be.

Sharing today’s Advent reflection by Bishop Barron.

From beginning to end of Scripture we discover stories of people who are compelled to wait.

The patriarch Abraham received the promise that he would become, despite his old age, the father of a son and through that son the father of descendants more numerous than the stars in the night sky. But the fulfillment of that promise was a long time in coming. Through many years, as he and his wife grew older and older, as the likelihood of their parenthood became increasingly remote, Abraham waited.

Did he doubt? Did he wonder whether he had misconstrued the divine promise? Did he waver in his faith? Did he endure the taunts of his enemies and the pitying glances of his friends? Probably. But he waited, and in time the promise came true.

The season of Advent reminds us that God sometimes completes his will only after a long period of time. So, like Abraham, we wait.

Thank you. Good post and thought provoking.

Painting I did a few years ago, inspired by Abrahams story and the idea that “your descendants will outnumber the stars.” Gave several away to people who touched my life in some way. In the center I’d paint one star different color than the rest to identify that person, the others stars are all of the people they affected, therefore, their “descendants” of sorts. I have one myself above my mantle.

Waiting is a Thing, with it’s own set of lessons. Lessons one would never consciously ask for, but then do we ever consciously ask for lessons, since the learning of them tends to chafe us? The lessons learned from Waiting are truly blessings, the biggest of which (IMHO) are Patience and Acceptance. And maybe the unknown ways in which those observing the Waiting are touched by it. And then there is the incredible Joy when the Waiting ends…magnitudes greater than it would have been without the Waiting. And the bonus of bursting Anticipation when the Waiting is about to end but hasn’t quite, just yet. Advent is our recurring way to experience all of it in a small way, every year, and such a blessing.

    Good Morning Stella, all,
Cold sweeping the nation, heading your all’s way! And Nyet, talking with my friend up your way, she decided to Uber in to work instead of wrecking her own vehicle. Turns out her driver was a woman named Natasha, Russian gal. I said to say “hi” to her. Didn’t know you let her out of the house!

She asked me if I knew her, being as I drive Uber myself. I said no, joking. Didn’t want her thinking I’m crazy with my imaginary friends here!
    Have a great day y’all!

Marxist Vegan Restaurant Closes After Customers No Long Willing to Wait 40 Minutes for a Sandwich

    http://nation.foxnews.com/2016/12/09/marxist-vegan-restaurant-closes-after-customers-no-long-willing-wait-40-minutes-sandwich

A “Marxist” “collectivist” “worker-run” restaurant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, closed its doors this week after customers complained that they could no longer tolerate the bizarre hours, high prices and long lines.

The Garden Diner and Cafe—previously known as the Bartertown Diner—featured a vegan, vegetarian and raw food menu that had met with significant national acclaim. But the restaurant’s business model, which did not allow for bosses or managers, promised a “living wage” to all employees and a strong union, did not allow the restaurant to make enough profit to stay in business.

    ****

People frequently noted on the restaurant’s Facebook page that they waited more than 40 minutes for a sandwich—and that’s when the diner was even open. Because the employees set the shop’s hours by group decision, the restaurant opened and closed at random times, leaving potential sandwich buyers totally confused.

    😂

Michael Moore, in his ongoing attempt to try and be relevant. Has predicted that the Electoral College could conceivably vote Hillary as POTUS and not Trump. Moore seems to be suffering from Jeane Dixon syndrome, get one right and there no throttling back that imagination.

Is it my imagination or, in an attempt to make himself more acceptable to the progressives, is Mike starting to look moore and moore like Hillary in drag?
