Almost feels like Friday, without the busted gut. Coffee’s up y’all. Headin’ out mid-afternoon to Rancho el Gordito to spend some quality time at la casa. Just me and about 2M of my closest friends getting on I-10 and heading west. Safe travels to all, and if I don’t get on here for a couple days, I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the one’s who are there. Remember those who aren’t, and pass the traditions on to the next ones. Good friends, good food, and good family. Hard to beat that.

When my oldest son went to school in Nashville he lived in a dorm that had rooms on either side of a little kitchen and eating area, shared by 4-6 students. My mother sent dishes, pots, plates, silverware, she treated him like a bride. He was very embarrassed but very kind.

She gave him stuff every time he came home, and for some reason, she seemed convinced that there was no toilet paper to be had in Nashville. He tried to tell her that he had plenty, but she bought more at every sale. He filled up his closet at home with it, and when we moved several years later we still had a few packages that we had not gone through in that closet.

Safe travels, travelers. This year I am grateful that my home in SC was spared by Hurricane Matthew, and my mountain cabin has been spared by the Rock Mountain Fire. Of course, the most important thing is my little family, my husband, my sweet old dog, we are all fine. We will spend Thanksgiving at our friends’ community center, which makes it very happy and stress free. Last year I was in charge of plating stuffing and gravy for 200 people, I imagine I will help out again this year… But its fun, we make a game of it, an assembly line, and everyone is in a great mood. Again, be safe everyone.

He repeats everything he hears, some things stick more than others. lol

He wasn’t feeling too good today. He has a cold and is cutting his molars.
He even had his Nanny worried this evening because he’s not one to be whiny and certainly not crying. He wouldn’t get out of his Mommy’s lap and kept saying he hurt but wouldn’t say where.
Finally got some orajel on his gums and got him to take Tylenol. Still not sure which worked, but hoping he doesn’t hurt anymore.
I hate it when little ones are hurting but you don’t where.

            • One of the littles I take care of is a little parrot right now. She repeats everything I say. It’s pretty cute.

I wasn’t with my grandson yesterday, they were at his other grandparents house, but they sent some photos. He only has six teeth but apparently tried some things and now loves sweet potatoes… a boy after my own heart!!!!

I’m sorry your little man was hurting. Teething can be truly unpleasant. Those big front teeth and molars especially. 😦 Thank goodness the Tylenol gave him relief. I like Motrin for that because it last six hours. Being a baby has it’s share of challenges and seeing our little people hurt is just sad.

How’s your daughter feeling? Are you having fun buying girl stuff??? 😉

We’re still not sure if it was his teeth hurting, his throat hurting or a bellyache or his head hurting from the cold, but either the tylenol or orajel worked.
He’s always a happy little man and is tough as nails, so he had us all a little concerned. He turned down a bubble bath, watching race cars and drawing all things he begs to do when we were trying to distract him.

My daughter rarely gets sick now, she’s traded that for swollen feet and leg cramps and being hot all the time and she says the baby kicks like a mule.
I’m having to slow down on buying baby clothes, she’s running out of room. lol
I’m making her bows now. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a bunch of head bands and ribbon and bought some cheap hats at WalMart and sewing and hot gluing bows on them. It’s insane how much they want for them already made. I can make 5 or 6 for the price of one.

                • Poor little guy. I hope he’s feeling 100% again soon!

Making it yourself makes it extra special! I have things my grandmother hand stitched for my baby girl many years ago and just knowing how much work went into each little stitch is so precious. It saves money, but ultimately you making those bows and hats for your little granddaughter will mean so much. 🙂

I hope so too. I hated it when my kids were sick but I think it’s worse when it’s your grandkids because you can’t be with them every second. lol

I have a quilt my Grandmother made me when I was a little girl, it was all hand stitched and hand quilted. It is one of my most prized possessions.
My daughter has a baby quilt my mom hand stitched, embroidered and hand quilted, she’s going to let her daughter use it.

                  • I have a quilt, too. I’m scared it will get frayed, so I’ve put it away. I pull it out and my grandmother’s old robe when I need to feel close to her. Anything that was from my grandmother means so much. She and my grandfather were the best people I’ve ever known. I hope and pray that I will have that same kind of relationship with my grandson as I had with my grandparents, but I can’t come close to how gentle and patient they were. Something to aspire to, I guess. 😊

I keep my quilt put up as well. My grandparents have been gone since I was a young teen but I still miss them.
Every time I go visit family and see their old house still standing there I start crying.

My friend made a hand thrown bowl for her mom. It looked really bad but of course it was made with love and her mom loved it and displayed it proudly. People will say “Oh that’s an interesting bowl’, and her mom will answer. “Oh yes, Lauren made it for me.”

There is a slight sigh of relief, because ok, that’s sweet something Lauren made her mom as a child.

Then the mom after a moment says “When she was 25.” 😂

We all crack up about it every time she tells us about a new victim.

Absolutely excellent article, and some outstanding comments:

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/264885/progressive-disintegration-bruce-thornton

    Truly made me laugh:
… look at yourselves. As Piers Morgan––no conservative he––said recently, “The tragic truth is that America’s millennials are a bunch of phone-addicted, selfie-obsessed, hashtagging, snapchatting, kale-munching, twerking, lazy, whining, ill-informed, politically correct, cossetted narcissists who find absolutely everything mortally offensive and believe there are 165 ways to sexually identify.” It follows that your politics are merely symbolic, expressions of your inflated self-regard, privileged life-style, and arrogant pretensions to sophistication and intelligence. Unsurprisingly, as Morgan points out, according to the National Institutes of Health, 40% of you think you should be promoted every two years despite performance, 77% of you can’t name a senator from your home state, and 80% of you think you’ll be richer than your parents, even as you pile up student debt earning junk “studies” degrees utterly useless for employment in the real world.

I wonder what percentage of young people fit that description. They’re noisy and get a lot of attention, which may make it seem there are more prevalent than they really are.

My home schooled son certainly does not fall into that category. He recently bought a used high end tower PC from a hip young guy from L.A. We met in person, and after the deal was done, got talking politics and found to our delight that his views matched ours. We’re Facebook friends now. 🙂
