    Wow! Stunning Autumn colors. My hubby is heading to Kentucky and Tennessee in a few weeks in hopes of getting some photos of the trees and mountains. Can’t wait to show him this one!

    Really enjoy this. Problem with living in the deep South is that if it ain’t green year-round, it turns brown and falls off overnight on one day on March. .

      We have years that are like that, then sometimes we’re blessed with beautiful fall colors. Not sure which we’ll have this year, right now all the trees are still green.

        Closest we’ll come is when the weed ‘popcorn/Chinese tallow’ trees start to change soon. They provide a bit of color, but on the downside they are fast growing, invasive and serve no good.

          Somebody thought we needed China berry trees, I hate them, they drop berries everywhere, my dog who usually is smart enough to not eat things that might hurt him ate some last year and got deathly ill. We cut the stupid things down, have tried everything to kill the stumps including grinding them up and these stupid things continue to come back and we keep cutting. I think we’re going to be cutting these things back down for the rest of our lives.

            Get a bottle of tree/brush killer and, using a cheap inch to inch and a half paint brush, brushh the killer on the fresh cut stump. I use that on wax myrtle, popcorn, oak, you name it – it works. If the stumps are too close to recut deadwood with a chainsaw just drill a few holes and pour some in. If hou have suckers you’ll have to cut each one and dab some on each cut but it kills ’em. You can also use the cheaper glyphosate in high concentrations (I got a gallon of 46% I’m going to use) the same way.

              People tend to concentrate on the tree trunk and branches as the main target in killing an unwanted tree, but with most deciduous trees it’s the roots. The roots are the center of life and until you do away them they’ll try to come back time and time again. Hmmmmm…seems there might be a message there…

                As far as the roots go. You can try a dicamba/24D mix(WeedB Gone). Mix a little heavy and hit it well within the drip line. For suckers, they actually make a product called Sucker Stop. Works pretty good.

                  Just about anything that kills plants will kill stumps. I wouldn’t soend extra just because it is labeled for suckers, they arecthe same as the parent tree and what you used on it will work on the suckers.
                  I generally buy bulk/concentrated at my farm supply or on-line. It’s cheaper than buying the already diluted name brand stuff at the big bix garden supply. If correctly stored the concentrate lasts for a while. When diluting herbicide be aware that the pH and hardness of the water you mix it in has a major effect on how effective the diluted product will be. For small batches (5 gallons or less) I use distilled water as it doesn’t compromise the ability of the herbicide to kill weeds and I end up using less.

                    I sprayed weeds professionally for many years. To buy the ag grade stuff in Washington you need a license. Sucker Stop kills just the suckers and not the host plant. Personally
                    , I only use Ag grade herbicides and have for 30 years. The important thing to remember is to rotate the herbicide you use every few years so the weeds to develop tolerance. Using the same product year after year will make them resistant. I only mentioned weed b gone because anyone can purchase it.

                    Ran outta space. Wash State explains it, I have my ‘restricted’ licence but after my initial herbicide spray on ground I’ve cleared I use heavy overseeding with desirables and mowing. Takes a bit longer to get what I want but I don’t have those herbicide related issues to deal with. I also get the creeps as I sprayed and worked in heavily Ranch Hand worked-over areas and my father was with Ranch Hand. Tends to keep mebon the herbicide-light side.
                    I’ve found that stumps painted with the concentrated herbicides don’t do much else but die and the half-lives of the ‘cides tick off as the stumps, mostly hardwoods, slowly rot. I just need the stumps at a level where my mower blades don’t come into contact with them, nature can otherwise take its course.

    Watching Matthew, Florida now in the cone. Watching this cold front. If it weakens and stalls he may sneak under it. The models predict a sharp turn to north on Sunday. If he travels further West before the turn all hell is going to hit florida. A Cat 4 or 5 on Wed. BOLO.

          Did I listen to the Savage link, no. I don’t have an hour and forty minutes to spend listening to Savage. His voice gets on my nerves. Also, I’m tired of hearing the same thing over and over.

        I got a new phone that I am really excited about. It is a Jitterbug and is a flip phone with large buttons, and large numbers and letters showing up on the screen. It is not a touch phone, which is what I have had for two years and never warmed up to.

            When my mother died (in 1997) they still didn’t have touch-tone service where she lived (in the Thumb in Michigan), so even the button phones would pulse dial, as well as computer modems (strange sounding).

      Started sonetime back with some clown who dressed up like a clown and allegedly tried to lure kids into the woods in a suburban neighborhood. Now it seems to have become, thanks to social media, a prank. There are posts all over the internet of people in creepy clown masks pulling pranks in stores, banks, you name it. Louisiana had a redux of the ‘creepy clown with a knife trying to lure kids into the woods’ prank. Father in the neighborhood was interviewed and gave the soeech I would, to the effect that they aren’t going to wait fir the rather ineffective policevto respobd and search for the clowns, parents are carrying defensive tools and will deal with this clown themselves. It’ll stop after one or two of these clowns gets hurt.

    AP just reported that the boy shot in Townville, SC has died. Prayers for his family. This is so very sad, we will be traveling through there tomorrow.
