About 4 weeks ago I noticed a stray cat hanging around my house I think he was living under my front porch
After a bout of hissing and spitting at me he finally came around
He is now living in my house yes…I took him in named him Tigg gave him a bath which was like wrestling a BobCat taught him some etiquette and manners and all is good
…and he gets along very well with my dog which did surprise me!

My friend had a cat move into her house. At first he would rush out the cat door when she came home from work. Gradually she came home to fine him asleep in a chair in the back room and when he realized she wasn’t going to hurt him, he just stayed. Her other cat who didn’t like other animals usually, didn’t seem to mind. She got his shots and had him fixed and he lived 11 more years. He was a very good (and very spoiled and pampered)
pet.

Glad you mentioned that it is important to have the cat checked out and get shots etc. I took in a stray once, who seemed healthy and fine, but one day he had a seizure and died, AND he infected my other cat with a disease. The other cat had to take drugs for a while, but he recovered.

I’m glad your other one recovered. I lost a dog about 40 years ago because I had neglected her shot and a neighbor took in a dog that had the disease. I was devastated and felt very guilty.

My new little on is too young for shots, so I have been keeping her isolated from the older cat. Funny, the older cat seems to prefer the arrangement.

My Tigg is strictly a house cat no more roaming the streets

We brought the outside cat in again the AM, trying to acclimate the outside to the inside cat. Worked fine right up until one of the dogs decided it really wanted to play with the cat and things sorta went sideways.
We cleaned up and we’ll try again later.

Animal introductions are always challenging.

Thing is, they’ve known about each other for over a year. Outside cat’s really mellow and accepting while inside cat’s a major frump. Inside cat will sit for hours at the garage/house door trying to catch a look at the outside cat….he’s union…so we’re trying to get the two on speaking terms as we may have to take in a relative’s cat for a short while.

Yea for Caturday/sarc. I am running around trying to get the lawn and shrubs watered before the wind hits its predicted 35MPH and here comes my 10 year old cat, Spike, with something bigger than a mouse in his mouth. Whoopee, it is a sill very much alive and really ticked off weasel! I get him to drop it, carry the cat into the house, close off the dog door and grab my high powered BB gun. Crap, out of BB’s. Back in the house to reload. The weasel is wounded pretty good and in a real foul humor. I miss twice. I finally reach down and put two in the back of his head. Cripes, he is still twitching. Run and grab a shovel. Karate chop to the neck> Scoop him up and toss him as far as I can with the shovel. I think I am going back to bed and start this day over.

Replace weasel with rabbit and you’ve got a not-unfamiliar weekend here.

I have done several rabbits in the house. Also a chipmunk or two. The cat was headed to the pet door with the live weasel when I stopped him.

My friend’s cat brought in lizards, mice, frogs, and one time a snake. Luckily she caught him bringing the snake in and grabbed it away from him and chased the snake back out the door. The poor cat had a fit and tried to stop her. LOL One time he tried to bring in a frog that was so big he couldn’t get it through the cat door.

A good reason to fit your cat with a collar and a bell. Gives prey a chance to get away.

She had two bells on him. LOL

I just remembered something she told me. He used to sit on a concrete box in the retention pond that sometimes had water in it and the birds would come around the edge of it. He would sit there for an hour without moving. She said she never knew if he caught something. But that is a long time.
