I got sidetracked on the VDARE LDS article. The LDS support for immigration’s not surprising, for a long time the church had brough as many new immigrant converts into the US as it could manage, it’s 19th century immigration of European converts is well know to Utah school kids who studied ‘Utah’ history and the BYU football team had a solid salting of Pacific Islanders for sometime.
I’m not as as worried about 1st generation LDS immigrants voting other than they are ‘requested’ to, even lster generations that stay with the church look at church agenda before other issues, it’s not so much they vote Left or Right, they tend to vote in their own andvthe church’s interests. I can remember old timers telling me how they’d be instructed in church mertings/services how to vote on what issues in upcoming elections. There are a lot more non-LDS in Utah now and the LDS voting base is much diluted from what it was when I was there, I wouldn’t put it padt them to bulk up their numbers with converts from the South of the Border missions. Viva la immigrants!

OK, mornin’ y’all. Strangest memory just came over me while I was reading this post.
It was 1999, a small group of us had been activated for an Asian mission and we were doing our workup at Ft Gordon, Georgia. Our meetings didn’t start until about 0900 but as Gordon’s a training post the activity starts about 0500 so a couple of us old timers decided to drag ourselves out of bed and go to early breakfast with the troops.
Gordon’s a mixed training post so the various classes contained troops from every service. As we walked up to the mess hall the vsrious leaders were marching thier chsrges to the entrance. Normally we’d let the lower ranking troops eat first but as the troop leaders like to keep group integrity we inserted ourselves between units.
We’d all been in over 30 years by then and had the usual patches and badges all over our field jackets. As just about all of the troops had been in less than a year we were a bit of a sensation. Questions flowed, especially about the combat patches on our field jacket shoulders and some of the badges as field jackets serve as portable ‘I Love Me’ walls.
Up to this time in our careers we’d felt like normal troops, judt part of the stream but today we were hearing things like: ” My grandpa was in Vietnam” and “I read about that in my history class”. I thonk my favorite was: “I wasn’t born until 1979”.
Worst part was that we all had from 12 to 18 morecyears until we could start drawing a retirement and we’d all be staying active until the last minute to max our retirement takehome. We all ate soft food that morning.

Good morning! This is a very random offering from me. I ran across this music video on YouTube while looking for Donald Trump live feeds. I watched. I don’t remember this song, part of the soundtrack from a movie that I never saw (Working Girl). What caught my interest is the clothing and big hair (especially the hair) of this 1988 movie, a blockbuster Mike Nichols production with an all star cast, and six Oscar nominations.
P.S.: Carly Simon won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for this song.

I remember going into the Peoples Progressive Public Housing and seeing propaganda posters plastered on tne walls, especially in the corners. I commented on how patriotic they were to have so manynposters. My host laughed and said the posters were free and covered the perling plaster/paint they couldn’t get replaced and the ones in the corners covered the drafts from where the badly mated walls dodn’t quite meet up.
Also remember being asked on the street if I had any western clothes (cotton shirts and Levis were big items) or western currency I wanted to trade at fourvor more times the official exchange rate. We’d leave packs of US gum ang European chocolate as tips for the maids.

Fun fact.
The reason women in Texas are known of their big hair and heavy make-up is that back in the day when their was no air-conditioning make-up would melt and run in the heat and hair would droop thus the more make up you could wear without it melting and the bigger your hair could be without drooping, the wealthier you were as you could afford to be fanned and you were obviously not doing domestic chores or working.
Big hair and lots of make-up was a sign status.

“Special operation in St. Petersburg: Terrorists destroyed:
As a result of the special operation in St. Petersburg on August 17, 29-year-old Zalim Shebzukhov was destroyed.
The fighter was the leader of a criminal group from Kabardino-Balkaria Republic. The group was a cell in international terrorist organization “Caucasus Emirate” (banned in Russia).

My son was saying “Me do” before he was one. He also fought me because he wanted to change his own diaper. By the time he was two, he was talking about getting a job. He wanted to drive and finally I had to tell him that he would get put in jail if he was caught driving without a license. So, he wanted to know how to get a drivers license and I told him he had to learn how to read. After that, his goal was to learn how to read. He kept me hopping, but he was a delight.

One of my funniest moments in my life is after we had finished reading the long version of Pinocchio. My girls were probably 4 and 5 at the time and they loved the line “Hunger makes for a great appetite” that Pinocchio used about eating an apple core.
My daughters were never allowed to eat while we were shopping as we hadn’t paid for it and it wasn’t “ours” . One day we had been running all day and then stopped to do grocery shopping and the girls were “starving” and begging for something to eat. So we paid for loaf of bread and I allowed them to munch on bread as we were shopping, at one point in a crowded aisle the 5 year old puts the back of her hand to forehead and says very loudly “Hunger makes for a great appetite!” and proceeds to take a large bite out of her slice of bread as if I never fed her before. The 4 year old doesn’t miss a beat and says the same thing with the same dramatic motion 😀.

I try really hard to not spoil him since I see him everyday, but it’s so hard not to.
I was a much better disciplinarian as a mom than I am as a Nana.
He’s a smart little boy and knows how tears pull on my heartstrings and also knows how hugs and kisses can break me.
His new phrase that is making it hard for Papa and Nana to say no is, “Peese, I wuv ooh.”
He’s only 19 months and imo has gotten too smart too soon. lol

Well he sounds like a wonderful little boy! I get the harder disciplinarian issue completely, it’s hard to see those little angelic faces melt into tears. Special promotion practices for blacks goes way back. However, starting in the early 90’s white officers started to defend their rights by suing the Board of Police Commissioners when they “cluster jumped” and went down a “cluster” to promote the chief’s son (black). EEOC investigated the case and issued a right to sue letter to the officers. Prior to trial the Board worked out an agreement to promote the officers who had been passed over.
I can’t find the specific case, but the incident is reference in these two articles.

“On September 19, 1994, the Police Board entered into a conciliation agreement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The Police Board agreed to promote to sergeant eight white men who were eligible for promotion in the 1991/92 cycle, but who were passed over through a process called “cluster-dipping,” that is, the Police Board promoted African-American officers from a lower cluster when there remained white officers eligible for promotion in a higher cluster. While these eight promotions were retroactive to the 1991/92 promotion cycle, the vacancies did not occur until the 1993/94 cycle.”

It’s part of a poorly thought out process of higher-ups ‘equalizing’ systems without worrying about consequences until they crap in their yards.
In the 70s after the draft was gone and Virtnam was wound-down it was almost impossible to get bodies to enlist. In desperation DoD made a pactvwith Job Corps and weekly we’d get busses of Job Corpses in to test wholesale. We’d be lucky to get 10% to pass the test and 10% of them to enlist. More than a few of those ‘lean days’ enlistees were a problem over the years. So many failed the standard tests for promotions that the Army did away with testings and promoted on far ‘squishier’ beses. One of our major promotion criterion was acreport from our headquarters on the racial/gender construct of leadership versus the racial/gender construct of the command. Same with medals, the report listed awards by race/gender and if we wanted to give someone a medal for accomplishments and that award would have skewed the stats against the ‘persons of status’ some sort of adjustment had to be made.
It’s become so pervasive a process you just learn to live with it.

Sigh.
They’ve resorted to naked Trump statues on street corners in major cities across the US. Of course there is one a few blocks from me.

I saw that on Twitter. Just gross. So sorry, Nyet. ☹️

You’re sorry? Someone is running a live feed from their apartment window and all the people are stopping and taking selfies with it. SMH.
Even if you don’t like Trump, why would you want to document yourself with something like that?

I’m sorry you have to see it. It’s really sick.

I don’t have to see it in person or anything. I have no reason to walk that direction on that block.

Well at least there’s that. 👍🏻

Actually, thinking about it. It’s a really stupid area to leave it here. It’s a block or so away from the hippy/OWS college in the bar/pub crawl area. It may not survive overnight or past Friday. It is a block away from the police station though. They should have left it where the tourists would see it in the downtown core next to Macy’s. Nobody but drunk 20 somthings will see it where it is.

Well…They’re Bernie and Hillary folks. So it’s fitting.

I looked at the live feed again. I don’t want to believe it, but people took the children to down for pictures with the naked Trump.
On a side note, the Trump statue seems to be drawing more of a crowd than the “live” Hilary.

I wouldn’t expect much more than silly arguments from people.

HA! I just told Mrs. Nyet about the statue and she asked the same question you did.

Someone drove up in a pickup and took it away about 5pm PST. The local TV news comment is telling; “But like all good things. It wasn’t to last”.

Remember when thevpress crucified Bush II for flying over New Orleans during the Kstrina flooding and not stopping by? Well with the Louisiana flooding being called the worst national disaster since hurricane Sandy there was a call for the POtuS to stop by ob his way back from his endless golf games and provide some moral support.
Nope, ain’t gonna do that and the press is cocering for him. He could land at Belle Chasse Joint Reserve base as Reagan did where National Guard choppers could fly him to the flood sites, the state’s new liberal Rat gov could even accompany him….nope. Louisiana is a red state after all, even if hoards of his bros are bobbing in the flood waters. Things to do, people to see in DC…..

Right, but the press spun that by saying he did it after they excoriated him for his uncaring flyby/flyover. FEMA misled him and he trusted his underlings to do their jobs. Once he discovered the magnitude of their mishandling of what the press even, on one hand, admitted was an unparalelled disaster there was nothong he could donto keep the parasitic MSM vermin from dumping all of the Katrina blame on him.
The NOLA airport was a disaster on the day Bush flew over (31 August) and Belle Chasse was the only operating air base in the immediate area, and the city was still in whose ever hands had a gun. The police infrastructure was a shambles: no contact between officers, no commo, officers left and right abandoned the city, all police offices except one on the west side of the river were flooded, the city was still awash…exactly what was he going to do?
